I Bought an Airplane

Words about airplane ownership and flying.

We Got It!

It’s a 1965 Piper Cherokee 140!  Perfect plane for my wife and I.  I found the listing for this plane on the Trade-A-Plane website and it was in Ashland, OR.  After spending a lot of time searching for Cessna’s to no avail, my wife thought I should widen my search to include Piper Cherokee’s and this beauty popped up. I drove down to Ashland, took a look at the plane, took it for a test flight and made a deposit.

It is a little daunting to buy a plane, but the whole process was made very easy by the financing with Pilot Bank. All in all, the plane ended up costing less than my wife’s Subaru Outback!

There is a new requirement being put on general aviation aircraft coming Jan 1, 2020 where ADS-B must be installed.  As part of the loan I took out on the plane, I have added the cost of installing it to the amount borrowed.  So I’ll have to wait until it gets installed before I can actually drive back down from home and pick up the plane.  I might be waiting for a great deal of time before I get the plane because there is a “line” of people waiting to get their ADS-B devices installed and I’m just adding my plane to the line only 2 months before the requirement is in place.

So until then, I will be going to sleep dreaming of flying and the freedom of going here and there in the air.
