Today I woke up to the sound of John’s voice calling from outside my tent at around 6:30 AM. “Ken, you might want to get everything buttoned down because there is a storm coming.” Yes, there was a storm coming and it dropped a lot of rain. Luckily it didn’t bring with it as much wind as Monday’s storm did. So we just waited in our tents as the rain passed over an all was well.
We walked across the street to get some breakfast – it’s easier than lugging around cooking equipment and more convenient as well. We also did a little prep work for Robert to leave tomorrow. It was good to fly out with him and get to know him better. Plus it was nice to have an airline pilot in our group! The rest of the day was spent shopping in the vendor booths and going to some classes. I visited the Boeing building, the Piper booth and various other aviation related vendors. There are a lot of deals to be had at Oshkosh if you pull the trigger during the show.
But what everyone was waiting for was the Wednesday night airshow. This was a spectacle. First, I had never seen any night time airshows. Second, I had never seen any aircraft strap fireworks to their wings and shoot them off while doing aerobatic maneuvers at night. I couldn’t believe my eyes. My phone camera isn’t that good at taking night shots, so I’m only including photos that I thought were good – and even the ones I am sharing I’m not too happy about. The end of the show includes massive fuel tank explosions that rival those seen in movies. You even feel like you got a little sunburn at the light that is generated by those explosions.
For our last day tomorrow I plan on visiting a few select vendors to ask more questions, watch some more planes and pack to get everything ready for leaving early on Friday.
