Today we decided to leave Oshkosh. On the one hand, I want to stay forever but on the other hand, honestly, it’s been an expensive experience. We left because the weather was turning bad for Thursday night, and since the airport closes at 8PM, everyone who wanted to leave on Friday may have to wait in a very long line, and potentially not be able to get out. Turns out we made a good choice because looking at the Oshkosh weather.. It looks like a high-wind storm will come in overnight.
After the Thursday airshow, we got in line to leave the airport, and luckily we were between 15th or 20th in line to get out. We headed for Alexander Field in Wisconsin Rapids, Wisconsin to get some gas, then shot over to La Cross Wisconsin to stay the night. We also might have rain tomorrow, but we won’t be trapped at an airport with thousands of other planes competing to leave.
For my first visit to Oshkosh, I found it to be a massive exposure to aviation. For example, before Oshkosh, I would be all googly-eyed over classic war birds. But John and I laughed because we were packing our planes to leave and we saw a Heritage flight forming with an F-22 and some F4-U Corsairs. We stopped what we were doing because of the noise and looked up to see the three Corsairs forming and said, “Oh, it’s just the Corsairs”.
