We woke up to rainfall which quickly cleared up in La Crosse. But the humidity, ugh! We spent most of the day flying across Minnesota, South Dakota and into Wyoming. Some notable sites were again, the Missouri river, Devils Tower seen in the featured photo above, and the coal mines of Gillette, Wyoming – which is where we stopped for the night.
Our fuel stops were in Mankato, Minnesota, Madison South Dakota and Faith, South Dakota. I love going to airports where they let you basically use a car for free as long as you fill up the tank when you return it. This makes it easy to go out and get lunch because most airports are quite a few miles from the towns they serve. The Faith, South Dakota airport had a pilot room with a fold out couch bed, a fridge with water, a shower and a place to sit and relax. Faith is a very small community but they have set up a really nice runway and a good place to stop and recharge. Also, Gillette, Wyoming where we stopped for the night allowed us to use a really nice new Ford Escape to drive ourselves to the hotel for the night.
Tomorrow we hope to complete our journey home with about 7.5 hours of flying ahead.
